La Ultima Casa (15/08/2010)
Date of my stay: July - 2009
Number of people: 5
Given its magnificent location, this was a real holiday house. The wonderful steep, windy track leads to panoramic, stunning views at the top, and worth the ascent. The new but sympathetically and authentically built house is clean, comfortable, stylish, spacious, secluded and therefore completely private, and well equipped. The local, renowned, northern Spanish restaurant cuisine does not disappoint; and delicious, local, huge, fresh peaches are as sweet as syrup.
What I liked the most: The views from the house.
I recommend it to: Couples , Families with children , Families with teenagers , Groups of friends

From the moment we arrived (4 adults, 4 children) we knew we were going to have a great time. We were warmly welcomed by the owners Karen and Peter and after a quick briefing from them, they were on their way and we were left to enjoy this lovely house set high in the mountains just outside Leirganes. The house was very comfortable and had every amenity with plenty of room for everyone. Karen pointed out before we booked that part of the road leading to the Cabana was ideally suited for a 4X4 vehicle which i had for the journey but our friends who accompanied us were in a normal saloon car and found the last half mile up the track no problem. The sunrise in the morning over the valley took our breath away and is worth getting up early for and equally as amazing was the sky at night, unpolluted by light we sat for hours watching the sky and counting shooting stars (18 if i remember correctly). The local town, 5 minutes down the mountain was lovely and everyone we met was very friendly and we enjoyed trying out our basic Spanish with the locals. Lots of bars and places to eat at very reasonable prices. A great place to swim was in Rubalcaba about 2 minutes from Leirganes near the church there and we spent nearly a whole day bathing in the crystal clear water that runs down from the surrounding mountains. Santander which is only 20 minutes or so away is great for shopping and has many many tapas bars and restaraunts and we tried and enjoyed as many as we could! . We crammed as much as we could into our week there and at the end of a busy day it was good to get back to the house where we knew we could relax without interuption from anyone or anything. The children were sad to leave, as we were, but we are already planning our next visit to this most wonderful place that we are so happy to have stumbled accross. I would not hesitate to reccomend this Cabana to anyone. It was great!

Date of my stay: September - 2009
Number of people: 6

The house, location and views are superb. We have a Land Rover and had a great time exploring some of the tracks that seem to go for miles into the hills. Lierganes is a lovely town, with plenty of restaurants and bars, as well as butchers, bakers, etc. For self catering.
What I liked the most: The remoteness
What I liked the least: The unpredictable weather - just like England!

The silence is deafening (09/02/2010) Christopher from London
Date of my stay: August - 2009
Number of people: 3
My age: 25-34
The house is located well up on a hill, a fair distance from any form of life. This means there is barely a sound to hear apart from the grazing animals further down. The views are beautiful, especially the nights sky. The near by town is beautifully rustic, and you can get some really good local delicassies from the shops and restaurants. There are some really fun attractions near by (especially the Zoos! ) And the short drive to the city of Santander is well worth it! The most important thing though, is the peace! Haven'T really found many places so quite and peaceful, and that feeling even transcends to town aswell! Seems impossible to feel stress there! The house itself is also well equipped for any needs, the barbeques are very good!
What I liked the most: The silence and tranquiltity
What I liked the least: The weather can be unpredictable
I recommend it to: Everybody
